Media Literacy 2021

shifting literacy
Project Details

During the past year we have seen a tremendous shift in how we have interacted with groups and organizations with our Media Literacy programs.

We closed out 2019 with ETV Education and our friend Frank Baker doing workshops with 6-12 grade teachers in South Carolina to presenting Social Media Literacy tips through Zoom interviews and our Social Media Networks.

Here at OTRMG, we have pivoted to online resources to continue to help the business and education communities educate and become educated about Media Literacy. As an Alliance of Media Arts and Culture member and National Association of Media Literacy Education partner, we are committed to spreading the word about the importance of Media Education in our schools, businesses and communities.

We launched an ongoing Social Media campaign in April of 2019 to assist our community in South Carolina with tips to combat COVID-19 misinformation and deliver resources to community organizations to facilitate better social media practices.

We believe that Media Literacy and our work in Moving Image Literacy is the next evolution in education. Here are a few samples of our work.

OTR Media Group worked with our students this summer at Olympia Learning Center. The instruction was very thorough. Students learned about “media literacy” and how to read and write film. The curriculum provided step-by-step instruction that the students could easily follow.

Clips from other videos kept the students engaged and hands-on work with the camera made the sessions interactive and fun. They came away with a finished project that showed their knowledge and ability to produce a carefully planned production. The school was very pleased with the outcome of the students’ projects and the professionalism of the teacher.
